Aside from the attractive glossy appearance of these books, their real appeal lies in the fact that they include easy piano arrangements of familiar tunes that players of any age can enjoy playing for their family and friends. Unlike the more common Piano, Vocal and Guitar (PVG) compilations often found in stores, the arrangements in these books are all arranged for solo piano, suitable for early to intermediate level pianists. The arrangements vary in difficulty level from around Grade 1 (e.g. C major arrangement of Memory from Cats), to a Grade 2-3 level (e.g. Eb major arrangement of Breaking Free from High School Musical). Lyrics are included for all the songs, as are chord symbols. Best of all, the song selections cover popular material from a wide range of shows and film genres that will appeal to different generations – my adult students have enjoyed the challenges of classic show tunes like Maybe This Time (Cabaret) and Summertime (Porgy and Bess), while younger students have been thrilled to try Wait For It (Hamilton), Hedwig’s Theme (Harry Potter) and How Far I’ll Go (Moana). With pieces from La La Land, The Twilight Saga, Lord Of The Rings, Star Wars, Chicago, Grease, My Fair Lady and Oliver!, there’s sure to be something for everyone here. Well worth investing in both of these musically appealing collections!
